Departure from Ponta Delgada heading to Lagoa do Fogo, in the Serra de Água de Pau, located in the center of the island, in the crater of an extinct volcano. Surrounded by the island’s idyllic and pristine landscape, with crystal-clear waters and a white sand beach peninsula, the lake rests peacefully at the base of a volcanic basin. We then continue down to the town of Ribeira Grande (stop at Caldeira Velha), which preserves an interesting collection of 17th- and 18th-century Baroque architecture that characterizes the town.
Still in the town, we can enjoy a unique, flavor-filled visit to the Ferreira Liqueur Factory, highlighting the passion fruit liqueur. The group then heads to the Pico do Carvão viewpoint, from where it is possible to see the long stretches of both the north and south coasts of the island, as well as the central area. The journey continues to the Vista do Rei viewpoint, offering a stunning view over the Green and Blue Lagoons, located at the bottom of the enormous volcanic crater.
Descending into the crater, there is a stop at the Santiago viewpoint to observe Lagoa de Santiago, followed by a visit to the parish of Sete Cidades, with its charming traditional houses. The calm waters, the picturesque gardens, and the sweetness of the hydrangeas lining the crater’s edges, contrasted with the steep crater slopes, create a fascinating landscape. Pineapple greenhouses are also visited, allowing an insight into the unique way this fruit is cultivated in the Azores. Lunch is included during the tour.
