Departure from Ponta Delgada heading to the north coast of the island to visit the town of Ribeira Grande and its surroundings. In the parish of Ribeira Seca, we make a short stop at a Renaissance fountain, a witness to past times. This fountain was covered by lava from a volcanic eruption in 1563, burying the settlement that once existed there.

Arriving in the city center, we immediately notice the 17th- and 18th-century Baroque architecture of the buildings, and we will visit the most important ones on a short walking tour.

Taking the mountain road that winds up to Lagoa do Fogo, we reach the viewpoint over Lagoa do Fogo. The landscape is truly beautiful: a vast lagoon of crystal-clear waters resting peacefully at the base of a volcanic basin. From this point, both the north and south coasts of the island can also be seen.

Descending the mountain towards the southern coastline, we arrive at Vila da Lagoa, with panoramic views of the island’s central area. Visit the Vieira Ceramics Factory, where all pottery items are handcrafted. Return to the city of Ponta Delgada.
